You fall asleep involuntarily from time to time.
Small chance each round you're in combat that you fall asleep for 20-29 rounds.
Narcolepsy (D) is a mental defect that causes the player to fall asleep on occasion will in combat.
If a player with Narcolepsy is near a hostile creature, there is a 0.2% chance each round for them to fall asleep involuntary for 20-29 rounds.[1] Sleep will render the player unable to move or act, while lowering the player's
DV by 12 and adding 4 to the penetration roll of creatures who attack them.[2] Falling asleep will also cause the player to go prone.
Players who fall asleep due to Narcolepsy will either wake after the duration has elapsed or after taking damage. This will cause them to awake with the dazed effect. Awakening from Narcolepsy for any reason will grant the wakeful effect, preventing the player from falling asleep again for several rounds.
Advantages & Disadvantages
Advantages
- Grants 3 extra points to spend during character creation
- Low rate of occurence
- Only occurs in combat
Disadvantages
- The combination of the DV penalties from asleep and prone will virtually guarantee attackers a free hit with +4 penetration
- If the player falls asleep while flying, they will fall out of the sky, making them vulnerable to ground-bound enemies
- Awaking from sleep due to taking damage inflicts the dazed debuff, decreasing Agility, Intelligence, and movespeed
- The player will fall asleep for a very long time before awaking automatically, leaving them extremely vulnerable
