An Esper using Clairvoyance to remotely view a room in Red Rock.

Clairvoyance is a mental mutation that allows the player to remotely view an area for a short time.

This mutation grants the "Clairvoyance" activated ability, which when used, will prompt the player to select a tile within the current zone. Any tile can be chosen regardless of distance, a even tile the player can't see. The tiles that will be revealed to the player will be shown around their selection point.

When Clairvoyance is used and a tile is selected, a circular area of the map centered on the chosen tile will be treated as being visible to the player, even if the player couldn't normally see the area due to occluding objects or a lack of light. The radius of this vision is determined by mutation level. The area will remain completely visible to the player for a mutation level-based number of rounds before the effect dissipates and the area becomes imperceptible once more.

Even after the effect wears off, the area that was revealed will be treated as having been explored, and thus the darkened general layout of the area will still be visible even if the player doesn't have line of sight.

Normality can render parts of the map or individual objects invisible. For example, a sparking baetyl will not appear when its tile is viewed with Clairvoyance, unless the player has line of sight to that tile. The presence of normality gas or a normality field will instead conceal the tile and all objects in it.

Formulas

The following formulas are used to determine area of effect and duration of vision based on mutation level.[1]

Area if Mutation Level < 15
(3 + Level)
Duration
(Level + 19)

If the player's mutation level is 15 or higher, Clairvoyance does not require a tile be selected and will simply reveal the entire map at once.
