Start a campfire for cooking meals and preserving foods. |
Make Camp allows one to create campfires. Campfires produce weak light, a minor amount of heat, and allows creatures to access both cooking and healing (via Nostrums skills). It is the one unique skill that all player characters start out with, regardless of their intelligence score.
Placing Campfires
Make Camp can place campfires into any unoccupied tile. This includes in pools of liquid, which automatically extinguishes the campfire.
A limited amount of campfires can be made per zone. Trying to make a new campfire in an invalid tile will display the notification "There is already a campfire to the (direction). Do you want to go to it?", with options to agree, disagree, or cancel using Make Camp. Choosing "Yes" will then begin auto-move towards the pre-existing campfire. Choosing "No" and "Cancel" both will cancel the creation of a new campfire and will not start any new actions.
Players can use auto-navigation to a pre-existing campfire even when the campfire is in an unexplored tile. The notification will always display the compass direction of the nearest campfire, regardless of its visibility, accessibility, or ability to be lit (if extinguished).
Whip up a meal
When cooking, players are unable to choose their ingredients to make meals with or preserve until they also purchase Cooking and Gathering and learn Meal Preparation.
When choosing the option to 'whip up a meal', 3 to 4 items are randomly chosen[1] as flavor text for the contents of the meal. Possible ingredients include books, tonics, gases, a dramUnit of liquid. A waterskin can hold 64. One dram of water is the base unit of currency. of a liquid, the dismembered limbs of creatures, and a number of ingredients not represented by an item (such as saffron).[2] The biome of the terrain you are cooking in affects the possible ingredients (such as the thorn from a jilted lover being available in the salt dunes and the flower fields). When items are chosen to describe the meal, they will not be consumed if the player actually has said item in their inventory.[1]
