Campfires (and clay ovens) provide the means of the cooking system in Caves of Qud. Players can also use the Nostrums skill at a campfire to treat bleeding, poison, illness, and disease onset for both themselves and any companions.
While a single campfire generally does not create enough heat to spread fires to adjacent creatures or objects, objects placed on top of the campfire will heat up and burn. Metal items piled on top of the campfire can collectively heat up enough to set adjacent objects on fire. Campfires also act as a weak light source, spreading light in a radius of 3 tiles, which is slightly dimmer than a torch.
Limited Campfires
A limited amount of campfires can be made per zone. Trying to make a new campfire in an invalid tile will display the notification "There is already a campfire to the (direction). Do you want to go to it?", with options to agree, disagree, or cancel using Make Camp. Choosing "Yes" will then begin auto-move towards the pre-existing campfire. Choosing "No" and "Cancel" both will cancel the creation of a new campfire and will not start any new actions.
Players can use auto-navigation to a pre-existing campfire even when the campfire is in an unexplored tile. The notification will always display the compass direction of the nearest campfire, regardless of its visibility, accessibility, or ability to be lit (if extinguished).
