    Worms

Worms are a faction of tunneling annelids. They are hostile to the player by default. Worms other than leeches have almost no presence on Qud's surface, instead living underground and in ruins. The corpses of certain worms and mollusks are possible requirements for curing fungal infections.

    Combat Overview

Worms burrow. A worm of the earth digs through walls using its gnashing beak, while seedsprout worms and bone worms burrow under the ground, leaving a trail of walls. A waveform worm burrows through physical space itself, leaving a trail of irresistible damage. Worms generally wield a natural cudgel on their body slot, usually called crushing bands. However, some have natural axes in the form of their bites, allowing them to cleave a target - burrowing through ♦AV.

Worms have another specialty: regenerating their bodies. The Regeneration mutation is common among worms; however, some worms have a different approach: according to their descriptions, segmented mirthworms and worms of the earth reproduce by harmlessly dividing themselves. This behavior was inspired by a myth; in real life, severed parts regrowing into new worms is seen in flatworms, not earthworms.

As with other creatures who naturally lack legs, worms cannot be knocked prone.

    Culture

Worms share almost all of their culture, including their naming convention, with the more surface-friendly Mollusks. The exceptions to this are mostly due to differences in the two factions' biology. Worms and mollusks are hostile towards one another despite their similarities.

One poetic feature of worm cherubim is their "geometric simplicity." The traditions of a village populated by worms may celebrate a lack of arms and legs.

Worms who live in a village become notorious for making worm stew: any stew, with one additional ingredient.
