Star orchid saliva pools at the tips of its fangs and drips onto pallid leg-things. It shudders in the capture of some pristine ecstasy lost to space and time, and it lets out a piercing whine.

Perfect

A girshling is a creature belonging to the Girsh and arachnids factions. They are spider-like creatures with 8 legs, claws on their foremost legs, and fangs.[1] They are not associated with any specific Girsh Nephilim. Girshlings are swarmers, meaning a girshling will receive a +1 bonus to their to-hit and penetration rolls for every other swarmer adjacent to their target.[2]

Elder Irudad gives a small physical description of girshlings as having "warted leg [and a] foul smell of sour gum".[3]

Lore

Spoiler Warning: This article contains information normally only found in the course of advancing the main quest line.

In the history of Qud, girshlings were a part of the Gyre as one of the seven plagues upon the land, and were described as attacking and destroying crops. This is referenced most directly in Resheph's history:

In 3 BR, the Gyre widened, and the first triad of plagues afflicted the land. The water was poisoned with salt, girshlings ravaged the fruit and wheat, and tongues rotted away in the mouths of kith and kin. Resheph walked below the chrome arches and healed the sick.

This crop destruction is also the impetus for one of the quests given by Mehmet in Joppa, What's Eating the Watervine?. At the current time of the player character's arrival in Qud, girshlings are still ruining crops in the salt marsh. Mehmet describes the incident as following:[4]

Mehmet

Aye? I have it, then.

Somethin' is eating our watervine, 'round Beetle Moon. Q-ruun says he saw a creature, spider-like, slinking in the brine. But no cave spider would dare get so near Warden's stomps.

I tasted a bit of red fleck in the pool. Shale, like we find in the soil by Red Rock...
