By the high salt sun she nearly glows. How the hide of her striped trunk shines like ribbons of painted glass suspended in a crystal shell -- and yet she moves. Beside her charge she glides, and her crystalline fractal gills waft in an unseen current. Though dusk dulls her sheen, by the Beetle Moon she sings to her favorite beings.

Recall Story
The Yd Freehold has suffered from erratic contact and only unreliable trade with greater Qud over the years, occasionally isolated from them by a hostile environment, distance, and the roving attention of the Putus Templar. But as travelers make their way into the Reef to visit the odd little settlement, some have returned home bearing ribbons of eggs from the Freehold's domesticated nudibranchs.
Such creatures reared elsewhere seldom retain the strength of their progenitors, but prove stalwart companions if fed well, treated kindly, and exercised regularly. Some traders have attempt to breed the creatures into mounts capable of carrying a human, but I've never heard of one succeeding.
As I investigated these would-be slug breeders, I was offered numerous opportunities to purchase my own companion slug. I declined, claiming to travel at too quick a pace to keep one, but my true motivation was more cowardly: I could not bear to place such a beautiful creature in the mortal peril that constitutes my day-to-day.
-- from the travelogue of Kaylenn Sand-shell, chitinous hound researcher
