The climbing vine curls tight about a witchwood stake. A noggin of knotted tendrils bounces to and fro, keeping time with the movement of nearby creatures and objects. Its ears perk at the sound of langauge, and it flicks leaves against its stake to mimic phrases it heard uttered centuries ago.
Euclid is a sapient mutated plant member of the Barathrumites faction and an inhabitant of Grit Gate, found within Barathrum's Study.[1] According to Barathrum the Old, Euclid is a "prattleplant".
Character
Euclid is a prattleplant, a type of vine that can store whatever it hears in its "neuroot network". Euclid can then mimic the sounds it's heard by flicking its leaves against one another. However, most of what it produces is "gibberish".
Barathrum refers to Euclid as his "dear friend", and says that Euclid is "old, perhaps older than [he is]"; if this is to be believed, Euclid may be at least 1,000 years old.
Combat
Euclid begins neutral to the player, but will become hostile if the player attacks it or any members of the Barathrumites in view of it. It can also become hostile if the player's reputation with the Barathrumites falls low enough, or if the player is seen stealing their belongings or damaging their property.
Euclid has no weaponry of any kind, and will attack with its "manipulators", which are equivalent to fists. Otherwise, it has only one ability in the form of the Berate skill, which it can use to shame a target.
Euclid always comes equipped with a clay pot, which it will wear on its roots. This will grant it an additional 3 AV.[2]
Conversations
Euclid does not have set dialogue, and instead will generate a random passage via Markov chain whenever spoken to, much like how the passages of white-titled books are generated.
The following is an example of what Euclid's dialogue might look like:
*thip thip thip thip*
I stood by his heir Wysterwort DCXLIX. It was the jewelers who bartered the thing from Priam's grieving sister. Each weapon has a long, slender chrome barrel. It is possible to begin with mutation scores of your eye.
