Once-familiar paper, paint, and beads are rearranged to a beastly shape. Pale lights of Spindle color gleam in the eye sockets, and a wicked beak opens in menacing stillness. Across the visage brass chains fasten the pieces of torn innocence that craft the Murmur.

Cannot be removed once equipped.
The murmur mask is face equipment similar to a gentling mask and is of unusual unusefulness for its tier. Only one can be found in Qud, permanently affixed to Warden Une's face.
The name, function, and material of the item relates it to the Murmurs' Festival as described in The Murmurs' Prayer, in which the Putus Templar colonizing North of the Sunderlies would force "the least favored of an outpost's squires" into a caricatured costume of a mutated human to perform and to later "be 'paid' with public humiliation, beatings, and possibly torture," according to information recovered by the author, Kaylenn Sand-Shell.
Due to its high tier, a murmur mask modded to be fitted with filters is more effective at protecting the wearer from gases than a gas mask, if one could somehow remove it from Warden Une. See the page on gentling masks for how to do this without killing them.
