Stumpier legs than their ursine cousins support a backbreaking slab of fur-matted muscle weight. Their long nasal bone is crowned by four cutlass canines, wood-sharpened for cutting through trunk rather than climbing it.
A barkbiter is a creature belonging to the bears faction. Barkbiters can be found in the jungle, as well as on the surface above Bethesda Susa.[1]
Barkbiters attack in melee with their bite and their claws. Their bite is a natural long blade weapon that deals 1d21-2 (Avg: 1.5) damage, and their claws are short blade class weapons that each deal 1d31-3 (Avg: 2) damage. To supplement their bite and their claws, barkbiters possess the Long Blade Proficiency and Lunge skills.[2]
Barkbiters have a 30% chance to drop a barkbiter corpse on death. This corpse can be butchered into raw barkbiter meat.

- Based on its description, it appears the barkbiter hunts tree-dwelling prey by biting into the trunk of trees they are occupying, eventually causing the tree to fall.
- The barkbiter's name may in reference to a common idiom, where one's "bark" is said to be worse than their "bite".
