Two turrets of sun-conducting chrome cap cylinders of burning gas, which straddle a metal trellis of spades girding some sort of guild mark. A 6-helix of fume, signature of the star engine this flier is wrought through, twirls toward the sky.
+1 Ego
You may activate this item to start dashing.
While dashing, whenever you move in a direction, you dash up to 20 spaces toward the nearest enemy or obstacle and perform an attack.
For every three spaces you dash, you get +2 to hit and +2 to penetration rolls.
The Flume-Flier of the Sky-Bear is a unique item initially worn by Saad Amus, the Sky-Bear. It is a jetpack that allows the user to quickly cover long distances, amplifying their melee attacks in the process.
Wearing the Flume-Flier on one's back grants the "Activate Flume-Flier" activated ability, which when used, will cause the user to enter a dashing state. In this state, any movement in a particular direction will cause the user to continue moving in that direction until they reach an obstacle, such as a wall or creature, or a distance of 20 tiles, whichever comes first. This movement takes only 1 round regardless of distance travelled.
Upon encountering an obstacle, the user will perform a melee attack against said obstacle, with a bonus to hit and penetration. This bonus is equal to +2 to hit and penetration for every 3 tiles the user travels during their dash.
Entering the dashing state requires no fuel or energy of any kind, and lasts for 10 rounds; following this duration, however, the Flume-Flier's activated ability will be disabled for 100 rounds.
Recall Story
The Flume-Flier has an option when viewing it in the inventory to recall story, which when selected, displays the following:
Whilom, when Salum was the lond of Qud,
Ther was highte Amus-an a sturdy Saad;
Of Caiafas was he lord magistrate,
Swich skilful arms dide earn him that estaat;
What with his wysdom and his hardynesse,
He conquered al the regne of Aldersesse;
And thurgh the eyr dashed undernethe his shroud,
And rafte the heddes of all thoos byg and proud;
And when the Coven quod by oon assent,
That starry Ptoh shal been to prison sente,
He leden all the wei and shette the dore,
While skerren men dide quake behinde his foore;
So buryen nought the Beren in a tumbe,
But fresen now to interrupt his dome;
And oon day resurrect to fighte agayn,
And maken sones of Salum all full fayn.
Translation
The Song of the Sky-Bear is written in a distinctly different style from most other text in the game, making heavy use of Middle-English terminology. It translates approximately as follows:
- Once, when "Salum" was the name of Qud,
- There was honorable Amus - a sturdy Saad;
- Of Caiafas he was the lord magistrate,
- Such skill at arms did earn him that estate;
- What with his wisdom and his hardiness,
- He conquered all of the kingdom of Aldersesse;
- And through the air dashed underneath his shroud,
- And taking the heads of all those big and proud;
- And when the Coven declared by unanimous assent,
- That starry Ptoh shall be to prison sent,
- He led all the way and shut the door,
- While scared men did quake behind his steps;
- So bury not the Bear in a tomb,
- But freeze him now to interrupt his doom;
- And one day resurrect to fight again,
- And make sons of Salum all full of joy.
